Cool

Hi girls!
I'm sorry that I haven't been on for a few days.

On the 15th I was just sitting at the computer checking my e-mails, & then all of a sudden, my back just started hurting SOOOO BAD. On the 1 to 10 scale it was around a 7 & an 8. So my Mom helped me get a heating pad on my back, & I sat in the big armchair all day long w/ my feet up. The next morning I was feeling a bit better. I was able to walk around! Slowly, but surly. Since I couldn't go on the computer at all the day before, I decided to go check my e-mail. I was just sitting there, & the pain hit me again.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOO PAINFUL. On the 1 - 10 scale , it was 15. I couldn't even sit, or stand or walk. It hurt TERRIBLY. I was just SOBBING. It felt like knives were stabbing me repeatedly in the back. {both times it was on my lower left side were it first happened}. My Mom took me to the emergency room at the hospital. I'm glad they weren't busy!

One of the Dr.'s came in & took me to get an x-ray. It turns out that I have a 20% curvature in my spine.
The Dr. thinks that the reason my left side of my hip hurts is that I've gone through a growth spurt since we've moved here. & with that curvature in my spine it throws my whole skeletal system off.

I had to lay on the living room couch for 4 more days. Yesterday, my back was feeling a little bit better! I was able to move around & do the stairs. {SLOWLY & only like twice} Today I am feeling like it never happened! I'm so thankful that I am feeling better now! Please pray that my back doesn't hurt me anymore.

I thank you all for praying for me the first time it hurt me!

Love,
Megan

I have had the exact same problem for the same reason. Make sure your doctor or a physical therapist gives you some exercises you can do to strengthen your back muscles and keep your spine as straight as it can be. When you have this kind of curvature, it is very easy to compress a disk or a nerve and cause the kind of pain you had, and it can reoccur easily if you don't take precautions. Don't worry, keep your body in good working condition and your back will stay healthy!

Thanks so much for that tip!! I'm going to the dr.s on Thursday, so I'll tell my Mom to see if it would be good to ask him! Thanks again!

My husband has a curvature too, and we've both benefitted greatly over the years from going to chiropractors. I've heard that in some areas of the country the quality of chiropractor work isn't so great, but around here they're excellent--I don't know what it's like in Arkansas. Best wishes!

I have back problems and I know what that can feel like.

Sitting can be one of the most irritating positions for your back. If you are sitting at the computer and leaning over, it will irritate your back. Sit in a chair with a back and place a small pillow at your lower back.

So sorry to hear about your back problems! I have a suggestion that might help in keeping strain off your back:
When you're sleeping, or just lying down, put a pillow under your knees; when you're on your side, put the pillow between your knees.

DH had back surgery for a disc years ago, and this is what he's done ever since, on his doctor's advice. It's something of a nuisance at first, but once you get used to it, you don't want to be without your "knee pillow"!

(When he's on his side, I get to share the knee pillow--it's very comfy!)

Just to let you know, most doctors don't fully understand what chiropractors do, and how much they can help, so most MD's refuse to refer patients to chiropractors, and if someone want to go to a chiropractor they have to go on their own. Most doctors only refer patients to physical therapists, who are much less effective, in my opinion.
